The first babies born in the New Year
are always a big deal but one of this years first babies came out before the doctor could get there.
That delivery and two others marked the decades first Permian Basin
is now the proud mother of Jayce Nehemiah Orona
, the first baby born at Odessa Regional Medical Center
this year just after one in the morning.
She's one of three mothers to deliver a local hospitals first January 1st

's first baby's is named Tinley, the daughter of Tierney and Cody Hamilton
, delivered at 12:54 AM. Tinley is Midland/Odessa's first new years baby.
"We probably have a lot of women that like to plan around that time", says Madrid.
, but that wasn't the case with Marisol over in Odessa, who expected her baby some time after next week.
"It was a surprise. I was due nine days later", says Marisol.
As she waited in one of a handful of delivery rooms she felt a sudden pressure and knew it was time.
"No nurse, no doctor", she says.
That's right. Marisol kept the delivery in the family.
"My mom helped me deliver him".
For baby Jayce, Doctor
or not, the first day of 2010 was his coming out party.
"I felt pressure and my son came. He was not going to wait for a doctor", says Marisol.
Madrid explains that some years the first baby isnt delivered until the afternoon of January 1st so this years pre 1:00 AM and 1:13 AM deliveries were quite early.
